Universal Care & Guidelines
Applicable to all finishes and products, these guidelines help protect your investment while maintaining enduring beauty.
The “Rinse & Wipe” MethodThe single best practice for maintaining your product’s finish is to rinse it with water and wipe it dry with a soft cloth after each use.This simple step prevents water spots and mineral deposits (like calcium from hard water), which are the most common causes of discoloration.
- Mild, non-citrus liquid soap
- Soft, non-abrasive cloth or sponge
- Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry
Want to slow down patina changes and improve water runoff?
Periodically apply our Surface Protectant Beeswax Spray (Model: W900-WAX) for an extra layer of protection.
Damage from improper cleaning agents is not covered by warranty.
To avoid permanent damage DO NOT USE:
- Abrasive cleaners, powders, steel wool, or scouring pads
- Cleaners with ammonia, bleach, or isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
- Copper, brass, or metal polishes
DO NOT:
- Leave acidic foods (lemons, tomatoes, vinegar) sitting on the surface
- Leave harsh substances (toothpaste, liquid soap) sitting for long periods
Finish-Specific Care
Traditional Copper (DB, AB)
99.7% pure copper with no artificial sealant. The surface naturally lightens and darkens with use, creating a unique patina. The patina protects the surface and gives it antibacterial properties. Bright spots from acidic foods will self-heal over time.
Nickel-Plated Products
Handcrafted from copper, then electroless plated with a durable, lead-free nickel finish. This is plating, not solid nickel, so follow all care rules to prevent scratches or stripping.
Polished Copper, Polished Brass & Glazed Color Collection
These products are polished or color-finished, then sealed with a multi-layered clear coat or durable commercial-grade glaze. - Glazed Color Collection: Our Colored Collection features a durable, commercial-grade glaze applied to the surface of each piece. While this finish is designed to withstand the demands of daily use, it is tough but not indestructible. - This finish will not develop a natural patina. - Always follow the “What to Avoid” rules — abrasive or chemical cleaners can scratch or strip the protective glaze. - Avoid harsh impacts, which may chip or crack the glaze. - Premier Copper Products is not responsible for damage resulting from improper use or cleaning.
Zinc
Zinc is naturally antifungal and antibacterial, with a reactive finish that evolves with use. Oils, acids, and standing water will cause changes that blend over time. For tougher spots: Gently clean with a paste of salt & vinegar or lemon juice—be careful not to scrub too hard.
